Vol. 404 No. 2

Written Answers. - Orthodontic Treatment.

William Cotter

Question:

112 Mr. Cotter asked the Minister for Health whether the North-Eastern Health board are referring patients for orthodontic treatment to orthodontists outside the State; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The North-Eastern Health Board refer children for orthondontic treatment to private orthodontists and to statutory agencies outside the State because the board have been unable to obtain adequate orthondontic treatment resources within the State.

It is my policy that orthondontic treatment should be available to the greatest number of people possible and I fully support the North-Eastern Health Board in their action.
