Vol. 404 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Worker Participation in State Enterprises.

Patrick McCartan

Question:

14 Mr. McCartan asked the Minister for Labour if he has any plans to increase the scope of the Worker Participation Act, 1977, to cover State bodies which do not currently have worker directors/board members; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The Worker Participation (State Enterprises) Acts, 1977 and 1988, provide for the election of worker directors to the boards of 11 State companies, as well as for sub-board arrangements in these and a further 24 State enterprises. There is, therefore, a wide range of worker participation in the semi-State sector. At the moment I have no plans to extend the legislation.
