Vol. 404 No. 2

Written Answers. - Employment at Waterford Crystal.

Austin Deasy

Question:

26 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for Labour if he has had any discussions recently with the board and/or the management of Waterford Crystal with regard to their future plans; in particular, with regard to the level of employment, either full-time or short-time, at their plants at Dungarvan, Kilbarry and Waterford; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Following the resolution of the dispute at Waterford Crystal I have kept in touch with the situation and have had ongoing contacts with both management and the ATGWU. I am aware of the difficult situation facing the company and I hope that both sides working in co-operation can put the plant back on a viable footing in the not too distant future.
