75 Mr. Carey asked the Minister for Energy if he has had any discussions with the Minister for Agriculture and Food regarding the promotion of forestry as an alternative land use; and whether there are special funds available to Teagasc for marketing these projects especially with severely handicapped farmers.
There is continuous liaison between officers of my Department and the Department for Agriculture and Food in the joint promotion of forestry as an alternative land use.
The provision of special funds for Teagasc to promote forestry to farmers, including farmers in handicapped areas, is being examined in the context of the operational programme for rural development which is currently being negotiated with the EC Commission.
