Vol. 404 No. 2

Written Answers. - Garda Retirement Age.

P. J. Sheehan

Question:

83 Mr. Sheehan asked the Minister for Justice if he will consider raising the retirement age for gardaí from the present age of 57 years to 62 years.

There is no proposal to extend the retirement age for members of the Garda, sergeant and inspector ranks from 57 to 62 years of age. The option of an extension of service to age 60, which has been open to members of those ranks who were due to retire on age grounds on or after 19 November, 1989, will continue to be available until 31 December, 1991.
