Vol. 404 No. 2

Written Answers. - Insulation of Buildings Regulations.

Richard Bruton

Question:

101 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for the Environment if he will outline the provisions contained in building regulations regarding insulation in the roof, floor, walls of (a) houses and (b) commercial buildings; and the way in which these regulations compare with other northern European countries.

Draft building regulations prepared under the Buildings Control Act, 1990, include thermal insulation requirements for new dwellings which are based on standards contained in the Proposed Building Regulations published by my Department in 1983. Details of those provisions, and the position in relation to other EC countries, are set out in the reply to Question No. 141 of 29 May, 1990.

The standards of insulation and the buildings to which they should apply will be further considered when the review of thermal insulation standards currently being undertaken on foot of the commitment outlined in the environment action programme has been completed.
