Question:

116 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for Health if he has any plans for changes in the machinery of adoption which will facilitate (a) persons over 18 years who have been adopted, obtain information about their natural parents, and (b) natural parents obtain information on children placed for adoption in the past, provided the adoptee is over 18 years.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 111 and 116 together.

I have been approached by a group, representing various interests in the field of adoption, who are seeking to have a mechanism established to facilitate contact between adopted people and their natural parents.

I am arranging for officials of my Department to meet the group shortly to discuss their proposals.
