Vol. 404 No. 6

Written Answers. - Leixlip (County Kildare) Garda Station.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

147 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Justice if he will outline the proposed policing arrangements for Leixlip, County Kildare when the new Garda station is operational; the total number of gardaí to be deployed there; the opening hours of the station; the way in which the station will be incorporated into the overall policing of the country; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I outlined how the new Garda station for Leixlip would operate in my reply to the Deputy's questions on 25 April 1990 (Nos. 32 and 35). Two gardaí — who are already engaged full-time on community policing duties in the Leixlip area — will be assigned to the new station initially. The opening hours will be 10.00 a.m. to 11.00 a.m. and 6.00 p.m. to 7.00 p.m., Monday to Saturday inclusive. When not on duty in the new station building, the members will carry out foot patrols in the town and surrounding estates. Leixlip will, of course, continue to receive attention from Garda patrols operating from the parent station at Lucan. The Garda authorities inform me that the manpower and opening hours of Leixlip station will be kept under review.
