Vol. 404 No. 6

Written Answers. - Swords (County Dublin) School.

Seán Ryan

Question:

196 Mr. Ryan asked the Minister for Education whether her Department have recently agreed to make provision for the long term enrolment of 500 pupils at Coláiste Choilm post-primary school, Swords, County Dublin; and in this regard, if she will outline (a) when the construction of the new school building will commence and (b) the way in which it is proposed to cater in the meantime, with both the enrolment requirements and the condition of the existing buildings.

A review of enrolment trends in the Swords area has recently been completed and on the basis of the information currently available on pupil projections and demographic trends it is estimated that 500 pupil places will be required in Colaiste Choilm for the future. Having regard to this, it will now be necessary for my Department to have discussions with the school authorities to establish how best to provide for the schools short and long term accommodation requirements. In the circumstances, therefore, it is not possible at this stage to say what development will be undertaken or when it might commence.
