Question:

36 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Communications if, in view of (1) the recent trend whereby Sinn Fein is taking a policy position increasingly independent of the IRA and (2) the moves towards a ceasefire, he will not consider a partial lifting of section 31 of the Broadcasting Act.

The current order made under section 31 of the Broadcasting Authority Acts, 1960-1979, was renewed for a further 12 months with effect from 20 January 1991. All relevant matters were taken into consideration when the question of the order's renewal was under review.
