Vol. 404 No. 7

Written Answers. - County Mayo Storm Damage.

Enda Kenny

Question:

158 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for the Environment if he has carried out an assessment as to the extent of road damage in County Mayo arising from recent storm damage; if he will outline the compensation in respect of remedial works he proposes to allocate to Mayo County Council; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Enda Kenny

Question:

165 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for the Environment if he will make a statement on the recent storm damage in County Mayo; and if he will outline his proposals to improve the position consequent on such damage.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 158 and 165 together.

On 7 January, I asked all county councils to submit reports on the damage caused, and the estimated cost of remedial works, to public roads and bridges as a result of the severe weather conditions in the early part of January.

Reports have now been received from all county councils and are being assessed in my Department. When this assessment process is completed, I hope to be in a position to make grants available as a contribution towards the cost of remedial works to public roads and bridges.
