Vol. 404 No. 7

Written Answers. - Waterford-Dublin Road Project.

Austin Deasy

Question:

164 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for the Environment if he will outline his plans to up-grade the main road from Waterford to Dublin, with particular reference to the section from Waterford City to Gowran, County Kilkenny, and from Carlow to Naas, County Kildare; and when it is proposed to commence and complete those works.

The operational programme on peripherality makes provision for the Newbridge and Kilcullen by-pass which will facilitate Waterford to Dublin traffic using the N9 route via Carlow. In addition to this major project, which is scheduled for completion in 1993, other works to improve pavement and strengthen bridges will be carried out on the route under the programme. These will be determined annually in the context of the allocation of road grants. The 1991 grants will be notified to local authorities shortly.
