Vol. 404 No. 7

Written Answers. - River Lee Crossing.

Gerry O'Sullivan

Question:

98 Mr. G. O'Sullivan asked the Minister for the Environment if he will outline the time span he envisages regarding the commencement of work on the lower crossing of the River Lee; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I presume the Deputy is referring to the downstream crossing of the River Lee which is the subject of a bridge order application by Cork Corporation. The resumed public inquiry in this case concluded on 14 December 1990. Until I have received and considered the report of the inspectors by whom the inquiry was conducted, I will not be in a position to make a decision on the application.

The downstream crossing has been included in the operational programme on peripherality which envisages construction during the period 1993-96.
