Vol. 404 No. 7

Written Answers. - Western Parkway Safety Standards.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

112 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for the Environment if international safety standards have been observed and incorporated in the design of the roundabouts on the N7 and N4 interchanges of the Western Parkway; if any accidents have occurred since they were built; if any changes have been requested or planned; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The design of the interchanges in question was carried out to internationally recognised standards. Accident data concerning particular roads is not readily available.

My Department have recently approved the local authority's proposals for the provision of pedestrian facilities — traffic lights — on the Naas Road at the junctions of Monastery Road and Ballymount Road which will improve the situation at the N7 interchange by reducing speed. Additional measures to improve the capacity of the interchange are also under consideration.

There are no proposals currently with the Department for any alterations at the N4 interchange on the Galway Road.
