Vol. 404 No. 7

Written Answers. - Social Employment Scheme.

Frank Crowley

Question:

141 Mr. Crowley asked the Minister for Labour if he will consider increasing the payment to married people with families who wish to become involved in a social employment scheme, but would be better off receiving a social welfare payment.

I took the current social welfare rates and the value of the additional benefits payable to social welfare recipients into account when fixing the current allowances payable to participants on the social employment scheme. The current rates which have been payable since July 1990, are as follows:

Basic Allowance:

£69.00 per week

Adult Dependant:

£29.50 per week

Child Dependant:

£11.00 per week per child

I propose to have a further review of social employment scheme allowances carried out later this year.
