Vol. 405 No. 1

Written Answers. - Revised Broadcasting Legislation.

Ruairí Quinn

Question:

25 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for Tourism, Transport and Communications if he has any plans to introduce revised broadcasting legislation; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Toddy O'Sullivan

Question:

44 Mr. T. O'Sullivan asked the Minister for Tourism, Transport and Communications if he will consider amending the legislation introduced in 1900 restricting RTE's revenues.

Toddy O'Sullivan

Question:

104 Mr. T. O'Sullivan asked the Minister for Tourism, Transport and Communications whether he is prepared to take any measures to remove or relax the restriction on RTE's advertising revenue in the light of RTE implementing the pay increases proposed under the Programme for Economic and Social Progress at a total cumulative cost of £5 million for the period 1990 to 1993; and whether he accepts that, without the arbitrary limit on advertising being removed, this will require a minimum further reduction of 500 jobs in RTE.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 25, 44 and 104 together.

I have no plans to review this legislation but must, of course, as with all legislation, continue to closely monitor its effectiveness and implementation in a developing broadcasting environment.
