Vol. 405 No. 1

Written Answers. - Proposed New Industry.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

54 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Finance if business start-up financial assistance is available to a person (details supplied) in County Kildare who proposes to start up a small service industry which will involve outlay including the adaptation of premises and other costs; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

In my budget speech in 1989 I announced that the banks had agreed to provide loan finance to entrepreneurs on certain terms. These loans are at reduced rates of interest and the banks, in addition, do not demand security on such loans. To date nearly £6 million has been lent or approved by the participating banks.

The scheme is administered by the individual banks. Any approaches on individual projects should be made to the banks. I will supply the Deputy with a list of contact persons in the participating banks. Contact with the State industrial development agencies, such as the IDA, may also be advisable.
