Vol. 405 No. 1

Written Answers. - Cylinder Gas Prices.

Tony Gregory

Question:

77 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the number of price increases in cyclinder gas, for home heating purposes, during the past six months.

While I do not have official information on prices since the ceasing of price control generally, I have had officials in my Department selectively monitor a number of energy products, including liquefied petroleum gas, since the commencement of the Gulf crisis.

On the basis of the information obtained, it would appear that there have been two price increases in cyclinder gas during the past six months.

My Department have been in contact with the gas companies concerned and advised them that I, and the Government, would view with great concern any upward movements in consumer prices which could not be fully justified both as to timing and content.
