Vol. 405 No. 3

Written Answers. - Fish Farm Licences.

Michael Moynihan

Question:

153 Mr. Moynihan asked the Minister for the Marine whether licences for fish farms at Deenish Island and Innisfard, on the Kenmare River, County Kerry, are being renewed consequent on their expiry on 1 March 1991.

Licences, of one year's duration, were granted to Salmara Limited on 8 March 1990 in respect of fish farming operations at Deenish Island, County Kerry, and Inishfarnard, County Cork. These licences have now been reviewed by my Department in light of the comprehensive environmental, hydrographical and other data accumulated in relation to these sites over the past 12 months.

On foot of my Department's assessment from technical, scientific and all other relevant perspectives, of these licences, I have approved the issue of renewed licences to Salmara Limited for production of 500 tonnes annually at each of the sites in question. The licences, which are of ten years duration, are subject to a number of specific conditions which complement, or are additional to, standard licence conditions.
