Vol. 405 No. 3

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Procedure for Circulating Documents.

John Bruton

Question:

14 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Taoiseach if he will establish a clear procedure for the circulation of official documents to Members of the House with a view to ensuring that, where a general circulation is taking place of documents printed at public expense, the circulation should be to all Deputies simultaneously and that Government Deputies will not obtain advance copies of documents as occurred in regard to the recently published report of the Primary Education Review Body.

I do not see any reason to change the long-established practice for the circulation of documents of this nature.

Is the Taoiseach aware that a recent document on primary education was circulated by the Minister for Education to Fianna Fáil backbenchers but not to Opposition Deputies? Will the Taoiseach ensure that in future where documents produced at public expense are being circulated they will be circulated uniformly.
