Vol. 405 No. 3

Written Answers. - Milk Quota Application.

Michael Noonan

Question:

195 Mr. Noonan (Limerick East) asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he will make a statement on the circumstances in which two letters signed by the same official of his Department issued to a person (details supplied) in County Limerick on the same day, one informing him that he had been allocated an additional milk quota on the basis that the introduction of the super levy system of 1984 had caused him severe hardship, and the other expressing regret that his application for such an allocation had been unsuccessful; if he will re-examine the matter and confirm which letter contains the correct information; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I understand that the above named producer made two separate applications for additional milk quota to the milk quota appeals tribunal. He was successful under the animal disease category and he was notified that he had been allocated an additional 700 gallons for this purpose. His application under the severe hardship category was unsuccessful as no producer could obtain more than one allocation under the scheme and again he was notified accordingly.
