Vol. 405 No. 3

Written Answers. - Departmental Expenditure on Consultancy Services.

Dick Spring

Question:

198 Mr. Spring asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will give a breakdown of the amount of money his Department intends to spend on consultancy services in 1991; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The 1991 Estimate of £740,000, for consultancy services for my Department, relates to the proposed engagement of consultants in the following areas:—

Area

£000

Actuarial

140

Legal

85

Computerisation

150

Economic/Industrial

300

Technical

5

Miscellaneous

60

740

I would point out that, at this stage, any breakdown would have to be treated as tentative, since decisions on individual consultancies will be taken in the light of the circumstances pertaining at the particular time. The miscellaneous provision is intended to cover unforeseen assignments which are required.
