Vol. 405 No. 3

Written Answers. - Vagrancy and Related Offences.

Bernard Allen

Question:

235 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Justice if he proposes to introduce legislation to allow gardaí more powers to cope with street walking and prostitution especially in view of the recent Law Reform Commission report on vagrancy and its associated problems.

The Law Reform Commission report on vagrancy and related offences contains recommendations for updating the law in respect of most of the major offences concerned with prostitution. Examination of that report is proceeding as quickly as other urgent demands on my Department's resources permit and any legislative proposals which may arise in relation to this matter will be announced in the normal way in due course.
