Vol. 405 No. 3

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Consultancy Services.

Dick Spring

Question:

17 Mr. Spring asked the Taoiseach if he will give a breakdown of the amount of money his Department intend to spend on consultancy services in 1991; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

A sum of £20,000 has been provided in the Estimates for my Department in respect of consultancy services in 1991.

Of this amount £14,350 has been allocated to the National Library, £9,350 of which is in respect of engaging a consultant to develop a five year strategic plan and £5,000 in respect of a training consultant; £2,000 has been allocated to the National Museum in respect of 1916 commemorations; and £384 has been paid in respect of a survey on the title of State lakes begun in 1990. No decision has been made on the allocation of remaining funds.

The National Heritage Council have decided to spend £2,700 of the funds allocated to them on such services. The sum represents outstanding payments due in respect of a survey of heritage education facilities carried out in 1990.

A sum of £145,000 has been provided in the Estimates for the Central Statistics Office in respect of consultancy services in 1991. No final decision on the allocation of this amount has yet been made.

Chomh fada is a bhaineann sé le Roinn na Gaeltachta, níl sé socraithe go fóill conas a chaithfear, má chaithfear, an soláthar £10,000 atá sna Meastacháin do na seirbhísí sin.

Is the Taoiseach satisfied that the amount provided for consultancy work in relation to the 1916 commemoration — £2,000 — is adequate? Is that not a meagre sum?

That is only for the National Museum.
