Question:

237 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for Justice if he will outline in respect of each year since 1984, the total amount paid by his Department to An Post for all services provided by An Post.

The following amounts have been paid by my Department for postal services to An Post since 1984: 1984, £1,733,209; 1985, £1,521,863; 1986, £1,660,323; 1987, £1,724,487; 1988, £1,370,274; 1989, £1,551,273; 1990, £1,687,365.

In addition, the following amounts were also paid to An Post: 1987: £935,000 in respect of commission for sales through post offices of court fee stamps; 1989: £37,365 in respect of overpayment to the Exchequer by An Post for receipts from sales of court fee stamps; 1990: £653,000 in respect of final payment of commission due to An Post for sales through post offices of court fee stamps, from 1988 onwards An Post was no longer involved in such sales.
