Vol. 405 No. 3

Written Answers. - Waterford Outer Ring Road Project.

Brian O'Shea

Question:

266 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for the Environment the current position regarding the Outer Ring Road Project in Waterford city; the funding he intends to provide in 1991; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Responsibility for the planning and development of works on non-national routes, such as the proposed Outer Ring Road in Waterford city, is a matter for the road authority concerned, in this case Waterford Corporation. The local authority may use the discretionary grants for roads paid annually by my Department to supplement expenditure from their own resources on such works. The discretionary grants for 1991 will be notified to local authorities shortly. In November 1990, the local authority submitted a request for special road grant assistance for the construction of Phase 1 of the scheme. My Department have informed the local authority that special road grant assistance would not be provided at this time.
