Vol. 405 No. 3

Written Answers. - Medical Training Schemes.

Bernard Allen

Question:

280 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health if he proposes to take action on the organisation of vocational training and general practice in this country.

There are currently 30 trainee general practitioner places on vocational training schemes approved by the Irish College of General Practitioners.

I am aware that there is a need for an increase in the numbers in training. My Department are at present examining two proposals for further schemes and there is at least one other proposal in the process of being developed.

The rate at which new schemes can be approved will depend on the amount of resources that can be devoted to this area having regard to the many other demands competing for funding.
