Vol. 405 No. 3

Written Answers. - School Facilities for Disabled.

William Cotter

Question:

316 Mr. Cotter asked the Minister for Education the number of (a) primary schools and (b) post-primary schools under her control; the number in each category which have facilities suitable for disabled persons; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

The number of schools currently recognised by my Department is as follows: (a) primary, 3,374; (b) post-primary, 794.

It has been my Department's policy for many years to provide facilities for the disabled in all new school buildings and extensions. Such facilities have also been provided in existing buildings where the need has been established and will continue to be provided as required. I am not in a position, however, to give the number of schools which have such facilities at present as the information is not available from the Department's records.
