Vol. 405 No. 3

Written Answers. - County Galway Drainage Works.

Pádraic McCormack

Question:

81 Mr. McCormack asked the Minister for Finance if he has any proposals to carry out drainage works to relieve serious flooding which occurs annually at Coolarne, Turloughmore, County Galway which affects 20 houses making them completely isolated for periods during the heavy rain season each year and which could be drained to the Clare River; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The area in question was excluded, on economic grounds, from the scheduled works of the Corrib-Clare catchment drainage scheme. That scheme was undertaken by the Commissioners of Public Works between 1954 and 1964. As the Commissioners' functions in the area are now confined to the maintenance of the scheduled works, they have no plans to undertake the additional works now requested.
