Vol. 405 No. 4

Written Answers. - County Kerry River Fish Stocks.

Jimmy Deenihan

Question:

42 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for the Marine if he has plans to restock the Feale River, County Kerry as this was once one of the leading trout and salmon rivers in Europe.

The Shannon Regional Fisheries Board under section 11 of the Fisheries Act 1980 have statutory responsibility for the management, conservation, protection, development and improvement of fisheries in the Shannon region. As such the question of restocking of the Feale River is a matter for the board having regard to the resources at their disposal and I have no function in the matter.
