Vol. 405 No. 5

Written Answers. - Access to Central Development Fund.

Seán Power

Question:

76 Mr. Power asked the Minister for Finance if he will enable counties that are at present non-designated to have access to the central development fund.

I assume that the Deputy refers to grant assistance from the western development fund, administered by my Department under the auspices of the central development committee. Grant assistance of this nature is intended to be used to deal with the special problems of the west of Ireland. I do not think that it would be appropriate, therefore, to extend the geographical scope of this fund. Existing national schemes, which are quite extensive, should provide adequate incentive for economic development in non-designated areas.
