Question:

172 Mr. Leonard asked the Minister for Health (a) the increase/decrease in the number of hospital bed days used in acute hospitals in each health board area and (b) the increase/decrease in the number of attendances at the accident and emergency Department in the acute hospitals of each health board.

The table below sets out the total number of bed days used in acute hospitals, including voluntary hospitals, for each health board area for 1988 and 1989 and shows the corresponding percentage increase or decrease in each case. Figures in respect of 1990 are still in the process of being compiled.

My Department does not have figures on the total number of attendances at A & E departments.
