Written Answers. - Regional Technical Colleges Staff.

Theresa Ahearn

Question:

201 Mrs. T. Ahearn asked the Minister for Education the total number of administrative staff employed together with their appropriate grade of employment in each of the regional technical colleges in 1991; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

Theresa Ahearn

Question:

203 Mrs. T. Ahearn asked the Minister for Education (1) the number of staff employed in the libraries of each of the regional technical colleges and (2) the grade at which each member is employed; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 201 and 203 together.

The information requested by the Deputy is contained in the tabular statement which I am circulating in the Official Report in respect of the regional technical colleges.

Consideration of the needs of the colleges in terms of central and support services is continuing in my Department and the Deputy will be aware of the commitment in the Programme for Economic and Social Progress to strengthen central services in the VEC third-level colleges to cope with increased enrolments.

In the meantime I have approved an additional eight posts in the library area of the regional technical colleges as an indication of my commitment to improve this vital service to students. I have also approved an additional nine grade II and ten grade III posts for the colleges.

Details of these new posts are shown in brackets on the tabular statement.
