Vol. 405 No. 6

Written Answers. - Bicycle Safety Procedures.

John Browne

Question:

35 Mr. Browne (Carlow-Kilkenny) asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if his attention has been drawn to the fact that many bicycles now being sold on the Irish market have no bracket for either a front or rear lamp; and if he will consider introducing legislation to compel bicycle manufacturers provide these facilities and to ensure that young people can have lights on their bicycles.

I would refer the Deputy to a reply, on 13 November 1990 to questions on this subject from Deputies Byrne and Ahern, Dáil Official Report, volume 402, columns 1203-1204, by the Minister for the Environment, who has responsibility for road traffic regulations and road safety matters in general. I have no function in this matter.
