Vol. 405 No. 6

Written Answers. - Motor Insurance.

Jim O'Keeffe

Question:

43 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he accepts that the restrictive attitude of insurance companies to new business is contributing to unemployment, as borne out by the refusal to quote a person (details supplied) in County Cork for a motor trade road risk policy; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I have recently written to the Deputy advising him that this particular case has been referred to the Declined Cases Committee for consideration and that the committee will contact the person in question directly when the matter is resolved.

The committee operate the Declined Cases Agreement which exists to assist in cases, such as the one raised by the Deputy, where difficulties are being experienced by individuals in obtaining motor insurance.
