Vol. 405 No. 6

Written Answers. - Iraqi Immigration.

Roger T. Garland

Question:

125 Mr. Garland asked the Minister for Justice whether under the informal arrangement between the Irish and British Governments to consult about the entry of Iraqis into Ireland, any consultation has taken place since the outbreak of the Gulf War; and, if so, if he will make a statement on the details of such consultations.

Since 2 August, 1990 consultations have taken place among the 12 member states of the European Community about a range of concerns arising from the situation in the Gulf. As such consultations take place on a confidential basis, it is not open to me to disclose details of them to the House. There have not been any bilateral consultations of the kind envisaged in the question during that period.
