Vol. 405 No. 6

Written Answers. - County Donegal Gaming Arcades.

Patrick McCartan

Question:

132 Mr. McCartan asked the Minister for Justice if, in view of the decision by Donegal County Council to ban gaming in the area under its jurisdiction, a decision which was subsequently upheld by the Supreme Court, and his recent statement that gaming is now illegal in County Donegal, he will outline the steps which are being taken to ensure that gaming arcades operating openly in Donegal comply with the law.

The situation with regard to gaming in County Donegal was detailed by me in answer to a question by the Deputy on 13 November, 1990.

Enforcement of the law is a matter for the Garda and I am informed by the Garda authorities that they continue to enforce the provisions of the Gaming and Lotteries Act in County Donegal, and that five prosecutions for illegal gaming in the county are before the District Court at present.
