Question:

193 Mrs. T. Ahearn asked the Minister for Education the total number of (a) distinctions (b) merits (c) passes and (d) failures awarded by the National Council for Educational Awards on certificate and diploma courses in each of the regional technical colleges for the years 1980 and 1990 inclusive.

The issue of the awards in question is a statutory function of the National Council for Educational Awards (NCEA).

The NCEA does not issue fail results. Information in relation to distinctions merits and passes from 1980 to 1989 is not available in the form requested by the Deputy. The first year for which a statistical breakdown by college exists is 1990 and this is set out in the following table.
