Vol. 405 No. 9

Written Answers. - Outturns in Revenue.

Proinsias De Rossa

Question:

54 Proinsias De Rossa asked the Minister for Finance if he will illustrate by way of a graph, the outturns in revenue in absolute terms in the years 1980 and 1990 for (1) customs and excise duties, (2) capital taxes, (3) stamp duties, (4) corporation tax, (5) value added tax, (6) other levies such as agriculture and motor vehicle duties and (7) income tax, including employment, health and other levies.

The graphs requested are set out below.

With the exception of health contributions, the data on which the graphs are based reflect Exchequer receipts from the revenue heads listed in current year terms for each of the years in question. Employment and training levy was not payable in 1980 — its predecessor, the youth employment levy, was not introduced until 1981.
The health contribution revenue included in graph number seven reflects the amount received by the Department of Health as an Appropriation-in-Aid in each year.
