Question:

116 Mr. Sheehan asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food when a person (details supplied) in County Cork will receive payment of his cattle headage and beef grants.

This applicant has been asked to supply documentary evidence of lands owned or rented by him inside and outside the disadvantaged areas and of his off-farm income. When he does so, his eligibility for 1988 and 1990 disadvantaged areas grants will be considered further. He did not apply for any special beef premium but his 1990 suckler cow premium grants will be paid shortly.

John V. Farrelly

Question:

118 Mr. Farrelly asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if there are grants available to people who are in the process of setting up a company here to import and build trucks; and, if so, if he will outline the details of same.

The Industrial Development Act, 1986 sets out the grant incentives available to industrial undertakings and the conditions under which grants can be made. In general, the industrial development agencies, namely the IDA and by way of delegated authority, SFADCo, are empowered to grant aid firms manufacturing goods which are intended for export or which in certain circumstances will substitute for imports. A decision on whether grants should be made for a particular project is a matter for the particular agency concerned.
