Question:

147 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Justice if, with specific reference to the prisoners serving life sentences and long term sentences in Portlaoise Prison, he will outline (1) the number whose cases have been examined by the Sentence Review Group, (2) the number released following such review, (3) the number not yet released but recommended for release and (4) the number referred back for further review.

As I indicated in my reply to Question No. 151 of 12 July 1990 by the Deputy, the advice provided to me by the Sentence Review Group is confidential and I do not propose to make public details of the type requested in the question of the operations of the group or of the action taken by me in relation to cases on which the group provides me with advice.
