Vol. 405 No. 9

Written Answers. - Extradition Warrants.

Roger T. Garland

Question:

148 Mr. Garland asked the Minister for Justice the number of extradition warrants which have been served on this country by the United Kingdom over the past ten years; and the number which have failed.

I am informed by the Garda authorities that information in the form sought in the question for the period prior to 1 January 1988 is not readily available from their records and that it would not be possible to compile it without expenditure of a disproportionate amount of Garda resources.

The reports on the operation of Part III of the Extradition Act, 1965 in the years 1988 and 1989 which were made to the Houses of the Oireachtas by the Government pursuant to section 6 of the Extradition (Amendment) Act, 1987 contain the relevant readily available information in so far as Part III of the 1965 Act is concerned.
