Vol. 406 No. 7

Written Answers. - Internal Market Directives.

Ruairí Quinn

Question:

141 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether in respect of the completion of the Internal Market by 1992, he will outline in respect of his Department (1) which directives are his responsibility, (2) the directives which have now been passed, (3) the draft directives which remain outstanding and (4) when these outstanding draft directives will be passed; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The internal market measures which are the responsibility of my Department are listed below.

The measures numbered one to 46 have been adopted in full by the Council. The balance (18 measures) are at various stages of negotiation within the Council.

Given the complex nature of such negotiations, it is not possible to say with any degree of certainty when they will be completed and the measures adopted. However, as the Deputy is aware, all Internal Market measures are scheduled to be adopted and implemented by 31 December 1992 and I can assure him that my Department are contributing in a positive and constructive way to the negotiations, with a view to having all the outstanding measures fully adopted within the appropriate timescale.
