Vol. 406 No. 7

Written Answers. - Grant Payments

John Fahey

Question:

150 Mr. J. Fahey asked the Minister for Energy the reason a person (details supplied) in County Waterford was paid a lower grant than he was originally allocated for the planting of trees.

The amount of grant paid to the person in question was the maximum payable in respect of the area planted. No commitment for a grant higher than that paid was given by my Department.

Michael Lowry

Question:

151 Mr. Lowry asked the Minister for Energy if he will review the decision of his Department to refuse grant aid under the farm electrification scheme for a person (details supplied) in County Clare; and if he will make a statement outlining his views on this issue.

One of the conditions of the farm electrification grants scheme is that agriculture must be the applicant's main occupation and principal source of income. The applicant was advised by letter dated 26th February 1991 that his application had been disallowed because farming was not his principal source of income.

If any unsuccessful applicant believes other circumstances should have been taken into account it is, of course, open to him to write to my Department asking for the decision to be reviewed. No such correspondence has been received in this case.
