Vol. 406 No. 7

Written Answers. - Insurability of Fishermen.

P. J. Sheehan

Question:

169 Mr. Sheehan asked the Minister for Social Welfare the reason a meeting requested with him by the Irish Fishermen's Organisation in December, 1990 has not yet been held; and the date he intends to meet the organisation to discuss the PRSI problem which is creating such confusion in the fishing industry.

I agreed last December to meet with representatives of the Irish Fishermen's Organisation to discuss the insurability of shore fishermen under the social welfare Acts. Due to pressure of business on both sides it has not been possible up to now to fix a suitable date for the meeting.

A meeting was arranged for Friday, 15 March, but it was cancelled at the request of the Irish Fishermen's Organisation. My office have been in touch with the Irish Fishermen's Organisation to have the meeting re-scheduled for a mutually suitable date in the very near future.
