Vol. 406 No. 7

Written Answers. - Killarney Electoral Boundaries.

Roger T. Garland

Question:

201 Mr. Garland asked the Minister for the Environment whether his attention has been drawn to the fact that there are two housing estates in Killarney, County Kerry called Pinewood and Ballyscallan which were built in the 1970s but are still not included in the Killarney Urban District Council electoral area, even though they are within the urban area and are, in effect, disenfranchised in local elections for the urban district council; and whether he intends to redraw the local electoral boundaries of Killarney to include these two estates prior to the local elections.

I have received an application from Kerry County Council to confirm an order made by them, extending the boundary of Killarney Urban District.

This matter now falls to be considered in the general context of the Government's proposals for local government reform, including proposals in relation to local structures and boundaries, which are set out in the statement issued on 7 March 1991.
