Question:

258 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for Tourism, Transport and Communications the number of haulage licences issued for international haulage under either (1) EC, (2) ECMT or (3) lateral agreements for each year from 1985 to 1991.

The information requested by the Deputy is as follows:

1. International authorisations issued to Irish hauliers under multilateral licensing schemes operated by the European Community and the European Conference of Ministers of Transport to the end of February, 1991. Each authorisation valid one calendar year allowing an unlimited number of journeys per authorisation.

2. Under an EC scheme initiated in 1990, 595 cabotage authorisations (each valid for two months) are available to be issued to Irish hauliers for the period July 1990 — June 1991 for use in internal transport in other EC member states. To mid-March 1991, 322 authorisations have been issued and it is expected that the balance will be taken up before end June 1991.

3. Statistics in respect of permits issued under the terms of various Bilateral Road Transport Agreements entered into by Ireland:—
