Question:

189 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Social Welfare the total amount of funds paid out by the Eastern Health Board in respect of mortgage interest relief through the mortgage and/or rent supplements for the years 1986 to date in Counties Kildare, Wicklow and Dublin; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

It is proposed to take Questions Nos. 188 and 189 together.

The information requested on rent and mortgage interest supplementation under the supplementary welfare allowances scheme is not available. Statistics, compiled by the Eastern Health Board, are not maintained in such a way as to provide the information requested by the Deputy.

In late 1990 my Department requested the health boards to provide this information and this matter is under consideration.
