Vol. 407 No. 1

Written Answers. - Social Housing Plan.

Jim Mitchell

Question:

248 Mr. J. Mitchell asked the Minister for the Environment whether in relation to his recent published document on social housing, he will indicate in the case of a person (details supplied) in Dublin 8 the loans which will be available to the person and the maximum priced house for which the loan would be available; and if he will confirm that the person would also be entitled to the full £2,000 first time purchasers grant in respect of the purchase of a house.

The plan for social housing out-lines the shared ownership system. Local authorities will be responsible for administration in individual cases. As indicated in the plan, legislation will be necessary to give full effect to the system and this is being prepared as a matter or urgency. In addition, consideration is being given to the introduction of the system on an interim basis in advance of the legislation. The £2,000 first time owner-occupiers grant will be available in the case of a new dwelling, if the application is otherwise eligible.
