299 Mr. Flanagan asked the Minister for Education the reason her Department have deferred a decision to carry out development work at Heywood community school, Ballinakill, County Laois; if her attention has been drawn to the fact that strict undertakings were made on development progress prior to the closure of second level schools at Ballinakill and Abbeyleix; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

I am pleased to say that, following a full review of all the circumstances of this case in the context of available capital funds, I have authorised the placing of the contact for the phase 2 works at the school, i.e. the provision of home economics, dress design and art craft areas.
